Author: Howard Crapper

Apprentice Awards have featured in Freemen annual duties for twenty years now and recall that one of the routes to become a Freeman was to be an Apprentice to a Freeman and employed in the town.

Our Awards Secretary is John Sanders and has held this position for many years and in consequence knows who to contact to find the rising Apprentices’ in the City. He really hit the jackpot with this years crop of finalists. Part of the application is for the employer to make recommendations and temper this with their list of achievements during the period of learning and training. The Freeman Committee must be congratulated in individually sifting through the applications and deciding on who wins the various categories and ultimately the Apprentice of the year. The winner this year is Lauren Hart from BMW. Not only was her credentials exemplary but also that she inspired others to join the path of apprenticeship. Lauren was presented with an engraved silver salver.

Other category winners were: James Gledhill, Jamie Kavanagh, and Daniel Toinson.

What a great pleasure to meet these fine upstanding young people of our city. Other notable employers were Lucy Electric and Oxfordshire County Council and our thanks to all who took part.
