On a very hot sunny day, after the inspection of Port Meadow. The Aunt Sally match at the Plough started between the sheriff’s team and the freemen’s team. Mike Rowley, Sheriff of Oxford won the toss and put us in to set. We set 12 with the sheriff ‘s team replying with 4. The Sheriff’s team then set 2 with us replying with 17. We won the last leg 11-7 making it a 3-0 win for the Freemen. The Sheriff, Mike Rowley, and our chairman, Howard Crapper, then presented the trophies with the tankard going to Howard for the win.
The winner of the femur in the coffin went to Mickey Phillips, 8 dolls (3,3,2), Norman Cox Memorial Shield to Trevor Cox,7 dolls (2,4,1), and the sheriff’s shield going to highest scoring sheriff ‘s player, Paul Kirkley, 3 dolls (1,X,2).
It was 13 a side as lots of people wanted to play, so the sheriff’s team had Wolvercote Commoners playing for them too. Paul Kirkley being one of them.
We once again thank Tim and everyone at the Plough for everything and Greene King for supplying the free bitter. Once again, there was a very good turnout from the Cox family.
Sam came all the way from London to play and help out and went back the same day. Sam scored 6 dolls beating his dad for the first time.
