Aunt Sally 2023

Author: Chris Cox

Due to the Sheriff and his team not being able to make the date, the annual Aunt Sally match was played with a mixture of Freemen and The Plough customers of which some were local residents. The match started at 2000hrs with the Freemen losing 2-1 (5-8, 7-11, 14-11) to the Ringers. Five players scoring well for the Ringers which included 2 section 5 league players, Brayden Shields, Chris Cox and the best Freeman player, Mick Phillips, who won the coffin with the femur for scoring the highest score, 3-3-3. Jason Phillips his son winning the Norman Cox Memorial Shield for scoring the highest score in one leg, 1-2-4. Howard our Chairman was on hand to present the trophies.

The Tankard and Sheriff’s shield weren’t played for (no Sheriff’s team). Once again we thank Tim and The Plough for hosting the event and organising the free beer from Greene King who we have to also thank for their generosity.

The match was played in a friendly manner and onlookers enjoyed watching a very traditional Oxford pub game, many seeing it for the first time. The match scores are below:
