Apprentice Awards Ceremony 2020

Author: John Sanders

This was our 13th annual Apprentice Awards ceremony and over the past years we have seen excellent apprentices from many professions that are the lifeblood of our city of Oxford.

The awards need some explanation. The Freemen have been the people who built Oxford, ran its businesses and made it prosper for the last 1250 years and for most of that time ran the Council. Perhaps in the future, some the present batch of apprentices will take encouragement to stand for Council. As a society that has been based on the apprenticeship model, we are probably best placed to encourage modern apprenticeships and the flourishing of our city and our greater community. This year we were particularly encouraged to see our best apprentices have worked hard to help their fellow apprentices and to promote apprenticeships to the young people who they have been able to come into contact with.

There were altogether five winners, three of whom were able to receive their awards in person, presented jointly by the Lord Mayor and the Sheriff of Oxford.
