The Freemen do not have precise records of their current membership. We are aware of Freemen admissions but unless advised by family/friends/other sources we are not informed of those Freemen no longer with us. Freemen of England and Wales require to know our numbers to determine the votes allocated to us at various meetings.

The aim is to compile a current list of living Freemen.

I have edited a list of all Freemen from Admission records put together, after a great deal of work by our Archivist Lizzie, and prepared a spreadsheet of those Freemen admitted since 1944 ie the oldest of whom will be aged 101 now, given age at admission of 21. I, and others, have deleted a number of those names that we know are no longer with us and would like to circulate  a copy to others who may be able to help.

We know that there are also some omissions, given the immense difficulty in painstakingly copying from manuscript entries, some barely legible - one of whom was our own Journal Editor!

Uncertainty as to the restrictions imposed by Data Protection Regulations prevents us from publishing the spreadsheet generally but, if any individual Freemen would like a copy, I can forward one. The list does not include any contact details i.e. addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses etc.

I would be grateful if those that can help, look at the list and making me aware of any deletions, additions or confirmation of any names that you are aware are still with us. The current list numbers about 750 and we’re fairly certain that the number is nearer half that.
