New Freemen Admitted!

At the 21st March Admission ceremony nine applicants were admitted. Two were on line from Canada which worked well. The ceremony was presided over by the Lord Mayor Cllr Lubna Arshad, and the Sheriff of Oxford, Cllr Mark Lygo. It was a really enjoyable event  - a first for me as Chair – with it’s serious tradition interspersed with some unplanned moments of humour which helped everyone relax, including a slightly hesitant and a false start of all applicants reading the Oath together. They all soon got into a good rhythm though, and I gave some words of welcome to finish the ceremony itself.

The evening was top and tailed with informal gatherings with drinks, nibbles and photographs. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, the applicants pleased and proud to have become Freemen. I gave thanks afterwards to Lizzie Hawkins and the Civic Office team for organising it so efficiently as ever.  They were all so friendly and helpful.

A warm welcome to those admitted: Timothy & Heather Chaundy, Jennifer Chaundy, Lily Chaundy, Maria Cooper, Mohammed Khan (Childe), Michael Parsons, Brian Sherratt and Clarry Taylor.
