On a very hot sunny day after the inspection of Port Meadow, the Sheriff and Freemen met at The Plough for refreshments and the annual Aunt Sally match.
The rules were explained to the newcomers and Sheriff’s team then the match was played. The Freemen won 2 legs to 1 winning the tankard with the score. 1st leg 9-4, second leg 11-9, and losing the third leg 7-8.
Chris Cox won the Femur for highest Freeman score and the Norman Cox Memorial shield for highest score in one leg, after a play-off with the Chairman, Peter Smith. The Sheriff, Andrew Gant, won the Sheriff’s shield for highest scoring Sheriff’s player after a play off with Will Paine.
This was the first time both captains (Chairman and Sheriff) were involved in play-offs. We once again thank Greene King for the free beer and Tim at The Plough for organising it, and the free food.
