After the inspection of Port Meadow, on a warm June evening the Sheriff’s group and Oxford Freemen relaxed at The Plough with refreshments, free beer and food ready to play the annual Aunt Sally match.
The match was well fought with the match going down to the deciding leg. The Freemen took the 1st leg 8-1 and Sheriff’s team came back winning the 2nd leg 6-9. In the final leg, Sheriff’s team set 6 with the Freemen hitting 10 in reply, Freemen winning the tankard 2-1.
The outstanding player of the match was Ed from the Sheriff’s team scoring 5 dolls winning the Sheriff’s shield, with a score of X/4/1
This must be a first as normally the top scorer is a Freeman. The top scoring female was also on the Sheriff’s team with Anna scoring X/1/1.
Four Freemen had to play off for the Femur/coffin (awarded to the highest Freeman scorer) resulting in a win for Lewis Milton. The Norman Cox Memorial Shield (awarded to highest Freeman scorer in 1 leg) was won by Dan Cox.
The trophies were presented by the Sheriff and Chairman of the Freemen of the City of Oxford.
A great time was had by all!

Once again, we would like to thank Tim and his staff at The Plough for the venue, free food and beer donated by Greene King. Thanks also to the Cox family for setting up and organising the event and being there en masse.
